Means of sound control
Force of influence of sound vibrations upon human nervous system is determined to a great extent by resonating synchronization of the external signals with the internal physiological self-oscillations of sound frequency.
Certain known means of sound therapy radiate to this or that extent some statically prescribed sound series. At the same time «YIC composer» program forms a sound dynamically, being guided by signals of cellular automaton, which is modeling physiological processes in human organism, including EXCITONES, human central nervous system regime (see figure 1.)

Moreover, user has an opportunity to influence additionally upon an automatically formed sound. Means of such influence are the subject of further discussion.
Sound control in «YIC composer» program occurs on the bookmark «sound influence», which contains two sub-bookmarks «Sound card» and «Processor»
Selection of the first of them means transfer of a sound, formed by cellular automation to the computer sound card input. Selection of the second bookmark does not require such a card, because sound is produced through a standard speaker. Since the first method gives us essentially more rich tools for sound formation and transfer, we shall start the description from this.
Proceeding from the state of activity of neuron environment, computed by cellular automation, it outputs sound sequence of certain pitch, amplitude and duration, which comprise a «melody» of the future sound series. There is a task set upon user to create its score. For this purpose «YIC composer » program uses so called MIDI format of musical interface, which without going into details means the following:
Computer driver arrays imitate a stage, where up to 128 music instruments, grouped into 16 channels may be arranged.
With the help of this method there is an opportunity to control both, the parameters of all the instruments in the channel simultaneously and each of them in particular. We shall explain the way it is being done on the examples.
Let’s start from the blank page. Let’s activate cellular automation and create an arbitrary neuron environment (see figure 2.)

Let’s point any number (from 0 to 15) on bookmark “ Sound card” in the field with «Channel» inscription. Now we should adjust channel parameters, applying to all the instruments, which will sound there. In particular, with the help of the «Stage» controller we shall arrange the instruments on the left (or on the right) at the stage. Let’s determine the level of frequency modulation and expression in the channel.
Then we shall assign several musical instruments to each channel. With this aim let’s press the button « + » on the right from the list of instruments.
We shall choose an instrument we need and tune its volume and sound pitch from the list, which appeared.
If everything has been done correctly, after we tick the field “On” to the right from the channel, the instrument selected will sound, producing a melody, generated by cellular automation.
By pressing the said button « + », we may add any new instruments to the orchestra and determine their own volume and sound pitch. If any instrument in the orchestra is not needed, one may delete it by pressing the button « - », choosing it from the list.
As a matter of fact, you may not delete the instruments and temporarily turn them off with the help of the switch in front of their names.
Besides the basic ones, the program comprises a series of additional options for control of sound quality. Particularly, “sensitivity” controller determines the rate of change of tone pitch with the change of the level of neurons activity.
Correct selection of polyphony is an important factor for synchronizing action of automation:
And finally, button corresponds to the piano pedal Sustain.
All the said operations applied to one sound channel chosen. With the help of the field user may switch to an arbitrary another channel and assign and adjust to it any number of additional musical instruments.
A sound, formed by cellular automation, may be recorded in a file, copied on the external media, and further it may be reproduced by any digital player.
First of all a user may determine a file for recording (with extension.mid).
This may be a new file or the existing one. In the first case to start recording it is sufficiently to press the button «Start», which will switch on the regime for recording sound data in the internal program buffer. At pressing the «Stop» button, the program will create a defined file and record information, accumulated in the buffer.
With the help of «Start» and «Stop» buttons, after the required manipulations with cellular automation have been made, a user may add a new portion of information into the file as much as he wants, if needed. One should only be careful to switch on «Extension of record». At the same time the selection of «Record from the start » will delete any previous sound data from the file and place the next piece of information at the beginning.
One should act the same way if it is necessary to introduce changes in the existing file. To do this, one should find with the help of selection button and determine whether to extend the new data or to start recording from the beginning of the file.
In the course of recording in the file a user may insert ready sound fragments from other files. To do this, it is enough to press «Stop» and «Insert» button when needed. The program will stop its work and ask about the file with musical fragment for insertion location. Afterwards you may proceed with sound record.
Regime for the blind.
Arrangement of cellular automation sounding may be performed by the blind users too. It is enough just to press and hold CTRL button on the keyboard. In this regime right-left «mouse» movement changes sound volume of the instrument selected from the list, and up-down movement controls pitch of sound.
If you hold the left «mouse» button together with CTRL button, its right-left movement will give expressions in the channel, and up-down movement determines the level of frequency modulation.
When the right «mouse» button is pressed, location of channel instruments at the stage (right-left) and sensitivity of melody to the current level of activity of neurons of automation (up-down) are defined.
Finally, rotation of «mouse» «wheel» (again, while holding CTRL button) gives an opportunity to move the instruments in the channel list.
